Vitalik discusses the future of Ethereum: L2 governance, AGI risks, and the Zuzalu experiment
Vitalik answered a series of questions on Twitter, covering many interesting topics. He shared his favorite books and games, expressed his views on supernatural phenomena, and discussed the development direction of Ethereum culture.
When discussing the Zuzalu experiment, Vitalik believes it has been successful in validating some core assumptions. He pointed out that in the future, it will be necessary to balance quality and inclusiveness at scale, and he explored the needs of different types of communities.
Regarding L2 governance, Vitalik expressed a desire to see more decentralized development. He believes that implementing ZK-EVM verification within Ethereum is a worthwhile idea, but he prefers to achieve the goal with a minimal level of L1 fixed extent.
When discussing potential catastrophic scenarios in the future, Vitalik listed artificial intelligence and engineered super pandemics as the top two concerns. His worries about climate issues are relatively minor, believing that as resources approach depletion, we will find alternatives.
For cryptocurrency-friendly countries, Vitalik is more optimistic about small countries rather than large ones. He also mentioned that besides cryptocurrency and longevity, he is very interested in "vagrancy."
In terms of artificial intelligence, Vitalik expects the time range for AGI to emerge to be quite broad, possibly between 2029 and 2200. He estimates the probability of disasters caused by artificial intelligence to be around 0.1, believing that we need to take the associated risks seriously.
Vitalik also discussed some interesting aspects of socialism, expressed his views on the latest developments in proof systems, and shared his thoughts on some unpleasant aspects of the crypto world.
