Former BlackRock executive joins SharpLink as co-CEO, continues to increase ETH holdings to challenge MicroStrategy.
Ethereum treasury company SharpLink welcomes new co-CEO, former BlackRock executive joins
SharpLink Gaming recently announced that Joseph Chalom, who served for 20 years at the world's largest asset management firm BlackRock, will take on the role of co-CEO of the company. This personnel change has attracted widespread attention in the market and has injected new momentum into SharpLink's development.
The addition of Chalom coincides with SharpLink's substantial increase in its holdings of Ether. The company purchased over 77,000 ETH during the weekend and has staked all of it, bringing its total holdings to approximately 438,000 ETH. This move makes SharpLink the second largest ETH treasury strategy company, second only to Bitmine, as the two companies compete for the title of "ETH version of MicroStrategy."
Chalom has extensive experience in fintech and digital assets. During his time at BlackRock, he led the productization and expansion of the global institutional risk management and investment management platform, Aladdin, and was responsible for BlackRock's strategic planning and execution in areas such as data, indices, and digital assets. He also facilitated collaborations between BlackRock and several leading digital asset infrastructure institutions, making significant contributions to the deep connection between traditional asset management platforms and the blockchain ecosystem.
Rob Phythian, founder of SharpLink, will gradually transition to the role of president while remaining on the board. Joseph Lubin, chairman of the company, stated that Chalom's joining is a strong endorsement of SharpLink's Ethereum treasury strategy and reflects the company's confidence in the vision that "Ethereum will become the global financial infrastructure."
To attract Chalom to join, SharpLink offers a generous compensation package, including an annual salary of $750,000, performance bonuses, stock incentives, and more, totaling approximately $12.5 million. This high hiring cost demonstrates the company's recognition of Chalom's abilities and its expectations for future development.
During his time at BlackRock, Chalom led the launch of several important crypto asset products, including the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA). These products quickly became market leaders, providing traditional investors with a convenient way to participate in the cryptocurrency market.
Chalom has a positive attitude towards cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Even during market downturns, he firmly believes in the potential and value of these technologies. His involvement will undoubtedly bring new perspectives and opportunities to SharpLink, driving the company to achieve greater success in its Ethereum treasury strategy.
